My Answers to Untemplater’s PMBA Giveaway Questions
A few weeks ago, Untemplater.com launched with a bang. One of the things we did was giveaway three seats (worth $497 each) to Josh Kaufman’s Personal MBA Crash Course. Not only was this an awesome prize, the responses we got from the readers who entered the contest were freakin’ ambitious, exciting, and very inspiring.
The questions were:
- Where do you want to work in 2010? Why?
- Where do you want to live in 2010? Why?
- Who/what do you want to be in 2010? What do you want to focus on improving?
- How do you plan on helping others untemplate their lives?
And so, with all this positive energy I got from reading the responses, I’ve decided to answer those same questions for my own personal growth and enjoyment.
Where do you want to work in 2010? Why?
A part of me wants to answer this question with the settling response: anywhere anyone would take me. In this tough economy, I’m almost comfortable with settling for the lowest that I could possibly get. It’s really hard to not sell myself short.
Would setting a higher standard be considered being too picky?
Anyway, in my dream world I would be making a lot of money doing what I love. I want my work to help and inspire others. I haven’t figured out exactly what that is yet, but the enjoyment and contribution are two important criteria.
Oh yeah and money.
Where do you want to live in 2010? Why?
I want to live where I can have and share new and memorable experiences with people. After living in small town California for 17 years, I figure I’d enjoy at least another year in Los Angeles. Eventually (i.e., after the year 2010) I’d like to live in New York, Chicago and/or the San Francisco bay area, or maybe Australia.
Who/what do you want to be in 2010? What do you want to focus on improving?
I want to be a self-confident, independent woman (or womyn).
Hmm, yeah that pretty much sums it up. Right now I’m far from self-confident and I’m a totally dependent girl. I need to grow up, take responsibility for my actions and be okay with it.
How will I become who/what I want to be this year?
First, I will eat well and exercise. I started the year off on a pescetarian diet meaning the only meat I could eat is fish. I gave myself an out: every Sunday I could indulge in some meat. I also have a daily morning routine to exercise for an hour. I’ve combined this with my goal to watch the entire series of Battlestar Galactica this year, so I watch an episode everyday while I exercise. I like to pretend I’m preparing myself physically for a potential Cylon attack. You just never know.
Second, I’m learning to be more open with people. During my formative years, I trusted people too easily, made myself vulnerable to people, and wound up getting hurt. I learned to close myself off to everyone in my life including my family. I wanted to deal with things on my own, even when I faced things I couldn’t possibly deal with by myself. This year, I need to learn to put my pride aside and ask for help when I need it.
Third, I need to figure sh*t out. Exploring and finding something awesome to do with my time is one of my biggest focuses this year. It may sound weird, but even the littlest things people normally do day-to-day can be extremely challenging for me. I lack a lot of motivation, so finding something that inspires and drives me is very important.
How do you plan on helping others Untemplate their lives?
Through my work as Community Manager for Untemplater.com! Heyo. Personally, I don’t feel like my life is very ‘untemplated,’ but I work with people who are real untemplaters. If I could bridge the gap between the untemplaters and those who are on the same boat as I am (i.e., templated), then that’d be fantastic.
